Ifield Edwards IV (Home) - JCC Quarter Final - Cup
Result: 3 - 2 aet (Won)

Scorers: Bannister, Keane, Kevern

A superb cup tie saw the 2nds edge out holders Ifield Edwards in extra time at the common. It was nip and tuck early on before an injury to Shaldoum saw Campo enter the fray. His first touch was to slot home after Kevern teed up Baker and his shot was parried for Campo to make it 1 nil on 25 minutes. Ifield responded with a powerful run from their 17 ending with the other striker hitting the post. Mullen then found Kevern and he turned his man a fired over the keeper from the edge of the box with a spectacular 2nd. The swans were rampant for the next 10 minutes, trying to kill the game off; Mullen missed a sitter (FINE!) when his shot was parried onto the crossbar from 8 yards after excellent work from Lee and Kevern. Kevern volleyed over shortly after. Ifield had looked dangerous going forward though with their lively number 8 and powerful 17 causing a few problems in the latter part of the half.

Ifield came out strongly after half time and we struggled to contain their 17, he beat 3 players and smashed home from 20 yards for the goal of the game and they were in the ascendancy for the next 10-15 minutes with centre backs Joe Chilmaid and veteran Stu Payne outstanding for the Swans. We started to find the passing football from the first half with substitute Budgen given the Ifield right back the run-around, he crossed for Kevern who found Lee, he was clattered in the box for a penalty. Their Keeper saved Kevern’s “Southgate style” penalty (FINE!) and this gave the visitors a lift. Ellison made a great double save to keep it at 2-1 and Chilmaid made a number of key blocks and last ditch tackles. Ifield had a run of corners as we held on in the last few minutes and a deflected 88th minute strike took the tie to extra time.

The Swans responded well to the last minute equaliser, pressing forward with Keane going close and Campo being denied by their keeper after more good work by Budgen. Ellison saved well from a fizzing 30 yard free kick. Tired legs set in for both sides in the final 15 minutes, but we managed to press on, creating a couple of half chances before Keano smashed home a spectacular winner from 18 yards in the 115th minute. Credit to Ifield for their part in a pulsating cup tie, MoM for the swans went to Joe Chilmaid who was excellent at centre half.
