November 7th, 2009Cuckfield Rangers (Away) - Division 2
Result: 1 - 1 (Drew)
Scorers: Irvine
Despite having 3 regulars out injured and one on holiday, the 2nds started brightly at Whitemans Green. We nearly went ahead early after a Kevern flick put Keane through but he shot wide when 1 v 1. Cuckfield then took control and penned us back for about 20 minutes, despite some good defending from the back 4 and excellent goal keeping from Ellison, eventually the pressure told as there left winger cut inside and smashed home from 18 yards. This finally woke us up as Mullen and Baker started getting hold of the middle. A string of Lindfield corners followed and again the mounting pressure told with Irvine whipping in a dangerous ball that eluded everyone and bounced in - 1 all at the break.
We were stronger second half with Keane causing Cuckfield a lot of problems, he and Kevern both went close before Cuckfield's winger shot over when well placed. We should have sealed the points in the final 5 minutes as their keeper miscued a clearance from near the corner flag, Kevern controlled and struck his shot agonizingly over the bar with the keeper stranded. Kevern again went close in injury time, blazing just over from 18 yards with the keeper beaten leaving the points shared in an entertaining game.
