March 13th, 2010Dormansland Rockets (home) - Division 2
Result: 1 - 7 (Lost)
Scorers: Keane
MS Div 2: Lindfield II 1 – 7 Dormansland Rockets
Scorer: Keane
A heavy home defeat for an under-strength reserve team who were convincing outplayed by a classy Dormansland side. Although we started well with Diston and Elkins impressing in midfield, we were very naïve defensively through the first half. Dormansland’s passing and movement caused us problems all afternoon (hence the 7 goals!!) and we never really got tight enough to them. We gave away a poor goal from a throw in on 15 minutes. Two more bad goals followed either side of a stunning strike from 18 yards by their 9. We did play ok going forward and created a few chances with Dave Keane scoring a 20 yard screamer for the Swans just before half time. The first half was summed up as having just got our goal, their winger danced round 3 challenges and crossed for the striker to neatly slot home first time. The second half was better with Irvine, Elkins, Shaldoum and Budgen all having good chances but Dormansland’s quality showed as they took their chances added another two goals 2nd half and it could have been three but for an outstanding double save from Ellison. Other than the result the other blow was big Steve Shaldoum tore a hamstring 2nd half which will put him out for the rest of the season.
The lads kept going well 2nd half with encouraging performances from Elkins, Diston and Brown who had all come up from the lower sides. Luckily we don’t have to play sides of this calibre every week as Dormansland are a MS premier standard side at least. MoM for us went to Irvine who worked tirelessly even with the score mounting.
